The Kwa Mashu Christian Care Society is an NGO Welfare Organisation which operates an Old Age Home for the frail aged and chronic sick in the community of Kwa Mashu just outside of Durban, in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
We are the only such organisation in the community of Kwa Mashu and our bed capacity is 115. We also endeavour to reach out into the community to help the frail aged by operating an Outreach programme through Care Centres. These Care Centres are mainly private homes and are assisted as much as possible by volunteers. Soup kitchens are also in operation at the Care Centres and we endeavour to supply the ingredients as best we can. At present we are rendering home health care and nutrition to approximately 450 frail aged through this Outreach programme.
Our Old Age Home, which was founded by the late and much loved Mrs. Zamazulu Nkosi, renders institutionalized care for 115 frail aged and operates 24 hours a day with a Matron, nursing staff and general assistants.
Unfortunately our very serious problem is the lack of funds. We rely very heavily on donations from the private sector and it is becoming more difficult to raise these funds.
Our sincere appeal is for donations to assist us to continue our humanitarian services and we would be most grateful indeed if we could receive this assistance.
The people we now care for were once employees themselves contributing to the economy and we feel it is only right that we now do all we can to help them in their twilight years.
