The Organisation is responsible for the research and development of syllabi, course design, intensive Teacher Training programs, publishing of Teachers Manuals and learners text books. It further ensures the correct implementation of the above through a system of regular supervision and inspections. IEOSA further undertakes the entire function of setting, conducting bi-annual examinations and marking of scripts after which it provides comprehensive reports to parents and affiliate societies. |

| An important aspect of IEOSA's services is the provision of supervision / inspection of Madaaris. The supervisors "evaluate" and "help" teachers in preparation and the presentation of the lessons. This means that the supervisors evaluate not only the teachers' performance but also their own research output (syllabi, texts and manuals) under working or classroom conditions - whether they are suitable or require adjustments. This then leads them to identify the problem area and focus their adjustments accordingly. Thus the IEOSA's syllabi, texts and manuals are constantly reviewed - adjustments are made in keeping with changing circumstances. If the best syllabus, texts or manuals are produced and teachers are trained on how to implement same, but fail to conform to the guidelines, this can result in educational disaster. Therefore, our supervisors visit the affiliate Madaaris to ensure that the guidelines are followed in terms of the methodology and educational psychology also to monitor the progress. Madrasah education is provided for Primary as well as the Secondary level learners. To ensure a level of high standards, each subject has a department of its own, managed by the Head of Department. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

PUPILS EXAMINATIONS |

Pupil's examinations are conducted by the organisation bi-annually. The papers are set by the different Heads of Departments for the various standards. The supervisors and Heads of Departments go out to the various madaris and conduct the exams personally. For the Grades One and Two, all subjects are tested orally. From Grade Three onwards pupils do a written exam except for subjects like Qur'aan, Hifz and Practicals which are done orally. The papers are then marked by the respective HOD's and moderated before the marks are entered onto the computer. The teachers are not involved in the conducting of the examinations, marking or in the analysis of their students. Thus the exams are conducted "externally" and there is uniformity in assessment. After the exams an "exam review" is held to discuss and analyse the results and constructive solutions are discussed. The HOD's then work on a remedial programme to improve on the weak areas. The results are discussed with the teachers who are advised on how to improve the results. |

| Since its inception, IEOSA has been concerned about the lack of any formal Islamic education imparted to male and female learners in the secondary phase of schooling, i.e. 12 - 18 years age group. After much consultation with secondary-school teachers, parents and other qualified personnel, a special secondary-school Islamic education programme was designed. The focus in this curriculum was to prepare the student to meet the challenges facing the youth. Hence the curriculum covers such topics as boy-girl relationships, drugs, extra and pre-marital issues, etc. A special feature of the curriculum, is its inclusion of language and Maths tuition. This incentive has proven attractive and has made the programme successful. This programme is being implemented in several Madaaris at present.
